Director, Social Services

The Director of Social Services directs the preparation, organization, administration and monitoring of programs/processes necessary for the operation of the Social Service Department. Ensures the social workers provide psychosocial support services, in accordance with professional standards and practice, to patient/families experiencing issues in social and/or emotional adjustment. Directs the team ensuring excellent patient care services, coordinating educational and outreach services, supporting quality improvement initiatives and linking team efforts with other hospital departments and with outpatient and community services. MAJOR JOB DUTIES Directs the operations of and implements the goals and objectives of the Social Services Department in alignment with overall organizational strategy and corporate goals including those related to patient experience, transitions of care, length of stay and readmissions.  Provides ongoing assessment and analysis of processes, procedures and technology, continually striving for improvement. Possesses the ability to implement change to the social work model that improves the effectiveness and efficiency of the services. Maintains data to evaluate performance and identify opportunities for improvement. Establishes and maintains a customer service approach to building internal and external relationships and partnerships including developing collaborative relationships with Department of Health, Adult Protective Services (APS) and Child Protective Services. Ensuring social work representation at the quarterly Nassau County APS meetings.  Responsible for the development and maintenance of policies and procedures of the department in accordance with current professional standards of care and regulatory requirements.  Responsible for the recruitment, selection, on boarding, orientation, scheduling, assignments and evaluation of staff members. Provides for staff in-services as necessary for staff development and educational services as necessary to other disciplines regarding the Social Services Department.  Participates in strategic fiscal and budget planning to all aspects of the Social Services Department. Plans appropriate use of space, equipment, and personnel to obtain optimal utilization and efficiency while containing cost.  Performs other duties as assigned.    Qualifications Education: Master's degree Social Work from an accredited school required. Licensure: Current and valid NYS licensed Clinical Social Worker required. Professional Certifications / Registration: Completion of Seminar in Field Instruction (SIFI) within one year of hire required. Experience: 6 - 8 Years In-depth post mastersexperience in social work required. 3 - 5 Years Supervisory/leadership experiencepreferred. Skills: Excellent communication (both oral and written), interpersonal, organization, leadership skills; Strong prioritization, problem solving and deductive reasoning skills; Subject matter expert of social service operation within the acute care hospital or respective outpatient unit required. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
