Legal Assistant Trainee 1

This position is in the Nassau Regional Office. o Prepares, files and serves legal documents, including but not limited to Notices of Entry, from draft text using the correct legal format. o Keeps records calendar in order to meet court-specified deadlines for document filing. o Maintains and updates case files. o Proofreads documents for correct legal terminology, context, spelling, grammar and punctuation, and questions issues of law which appear unclear. o Maintains contact with court personnel to set up court dates, serve papers in a legally sufficient and timely manner, and keep abreast of changes in filing and format requirements. o Assists with e-filing documents in NYSCEF & monitoring section cases in NYSCEF. o Assembles motion exhibits, appellate briefs & appendices. o Prepares initial UI appeal case files. o Maintains and/or oversees tracking systems, calendars, and reporting systems. o Opens and close files or cases and/or oversees the process of opening, closing & archiving files and cases. o Performs activities related to docketing, the placement of court-related activities in NYMatters and on an attorney's calendar. o Answers routine questions from the public. o Prepares reports as requested. o Provide support including answering phone calls, processing mail, etc. o Perform other duties as assigned.

Salary Range:
From $44957 to $64693 Annually
Minimum Qualification
Permanent appointment:
Reachable on the Legal Assistant Trainee 1 eligible list OR eligible to transfer. Provisional appointment:
an associate's degree (or higher) in a paralegal/legal assistant program OR a certificate in a paralegal/legal assistant program where either the degree or certificate was granted from a regionally accredited college or university, or college or university accredited by the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools (ACICS) or one approved by the American Bar Association (ABA). Substitution:
Graduation from an accredited (ABA approved) law school with a degree required by New York State Bar admittance will be accepted as meeting the educational requirements for either examination. Non-qualifying degrees:
Non-qualifying degrees include but are not limited to degrees in Criminal Justice, Legal Studies, Liberal Arts, Political Science, Business Administration and Business Management. Important:
Non-degree certificates of completion or diplomas awarded by a training institution or company not regionally accredited or accredited by the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools (ACICS) or approved by the American Bar Association (ABA) are not qualifying.Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
